Football Betting

Explanation of how football betting works

The majority of the football betting action is related to professional football in the National Football League (NFL). However, almost as popular as betting on pro football is betting on college football. The reason is that in college football there is more teams, more games, more time frames as to when the games are played. Moreover, there is more fan mania, rivalry, and dedication frankly than you see at the pro level.

Football betting line

This is considered the simplest wager in football betting. Bettors place wagers on the team that they think will win the game. Odds are offered in football betting according to the favorite team. The favorite will have the sign of a minus number while the underdog will have the sign of a plus number. This means that placing a bet on the favorite will provide earnings that are less than the bet amount, in the case of a win. As an example if a $170 bet is placed on a team with -170 odds, the player could earn $100. In the case of placing a bet on the underdog, this involves a win of more than the bet amount in the event of a win. In the situation where a player bets $100 on a team with the odds of +120, the player could win $120.

Point spread betting

Ever hear someone say, “What’s the spread?” This is what they are talking about. Spread betting is available in football and is one of the most popular bets in this sport.

A spread is set by the bookmaker. This type of bet can be explained as the number of points by which the favorite team will win the game. This therefore means that in order for a spread bettor to win the bet, the team needs to win by a certain amount of points.

Example: Jets vs Dolphins and the spread is Jets -6. This means if Jets win by 7 points this spread bet is a winner.
