Pai Gow Poker

Pai Gow poker is basically a type of poker that is common at online casinos. The game combines two games: Pai Gow (originally a Chinese game) and often referred to as Chinese poker or classic poker. When played in online casinos it’s usually played by one player against a computer dealer. It should be noted that the game is not just about luck but actually requires some skill since players have to be on top of two hands of cards (rather than the usual one in most poker games) and thereafter place wagers on if there hands are better than those of the dealer. Obviously this complicates the matter as there are more cards involved. The two hands are “high hand” (a five card hand) and “low hand” (a two card hand). The high hand has to have a higher value than the low hand for a player to even qualify.

How Pai Gow Poker Works in Practice

The beginning of the game sees players placing a wager. The dealer thereafter gives out seven cards to each player (to form the two hands) and then the player must organize these in to their two hands (deciding which ones go where). The dealer also gets 7 cards and does the same. If you are unsure how best to organize your cards in to the two respective hands, then you can get the computer software to do it for you by clicking on “house way.” But that does take some of the fun out of the game and also makes it less like that you are playing.

Winning Hand Combinations in Pai Gow Poker

Since Pai Gow uses a 53 card deck (the 53rd card being the joker or wild card), the winning hand combinations are obviously going to be different to other forms of poker. A player who gets dealt the joker is on to something as it can be used as n ace, or to complete three different hand combinations: flush, straight or a straight flush, so it’s a pretty good card to be dealt. What is also different with this type to other types of poker is that in a situation in which the player’s hand has the same value as the dealer’s hand, the dealer wins. What you want to aim for in Pai Gow poker is any of the following winning combinations (in top to bottom order): 5 aces (obviously you’d need the “joker” to make that hand); royal flush; straight flush; four of a kind; flush; straight; three of a kind; two pair; ace; king; queen; jack. Again, it is important to note that no matter what winning hand you think you have achieved (except the 5 aces which only one player can get), if the dealer gets the same, there will be no payout for you.
